Chelsea star upset with fans post goalless draw against Leicester City

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois lashed out at fans after the Blues failed to gather all three points against the highly spirited Foxes.

Courtois was unhappy with the Stamford Bridge crowd who booed and whistled the Chelsea stars over every single mistake they committed.

The Belgian goalkeeper had a busy time between the woodworks with his save off a Leicester corner being the difference between the two sides.

Leicester was down to 10-men after Ben Chilwell received a red card in the second half, but the London side failed to take advantage with a series of tame attacking efforts.

The result now sees Chelsea level with Manchester United who plays Stoke City in a few days time. To make matters worse, 32-year-old defender Gary Cahill was forced off due to a hamstring injury in the 33rd minute.

Courtois laments lack of support from Stamford Bridge faithful

Post the fixture, the 25-year-old spoke to Sky Sports, wherein he revealed that their performance was below par and it definitely didn’t help when their own fans were booing and whistling at his teammates. He stated:

“It doesn’t help when the fans boo and whistle after each misplaced pass, We didn’t play well but that’s when we need the fans behind us.”

The fans at Stamford Bridge are growing impatient day by day as the club are yet to secure a victory in 2018. Out of the Last 7 fixtures, 4 have been goalless draws for the Blues, much to the agony of the supporters.

With the growing speculation of Conte’s future with the London side, piling injuries and fixture congestion. The Blues have a lot on their plate and need to produce results to gain the support of their fans.

Author’s Take:

Despite yet another below par performance by Chelsea, the fans should stick with their side during the rough times. As Courtois rightly mentioned, booing or whistling doesn’t help the players who are already under tremendous pressure. Chelsea needs to step up as they have a flurry of knockout fixtures against Arsenal and Norwich City and a huge clash against FC Barcelona on the horizon.
