Chelsea has been heavily linked with many top players this window. Though the Blues spent big last summer signing seven new recruits. Frank Lampard and co are yet to provide positive results to give joy to Chelsea fans. Hence, there have been reports of Chelsea focusing on strengthening their squad further. Multiple stars have been linked to the west London club.
Argentina international Paulo Dybala is also a named linked with Chelsea. In addition to the Blues, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also linked to the forward. However, Fabrizio Romano recently updated that Chelsea are not keen to sign Dybala this window. Romano also confirmed that Chelsea has not made contact with Juventus about signing the Argentine.
Chelsea already possesses two great playmakers in their squad. Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz may still not be at their best yet. But the Blues are not considering benching them for a new signing after splashing a huge sum on the duo. Havertz is currently Chelsea’s most expensive recruit and they will give him more time to prove himself. The German did not have a great start and was infected with covid right when he was picking up the flow.
However, Dybala looks keen to make a shift to the Premier League. Although Chelsea are not keen to sign him, Dybala still has the attention of Manchester United and Tottenham. The PL duo are likely to make contact with Juventus soon. Juventus are keen on the idea of a player swap with United for Paul Pogba. This gives United an edge over the Spurs, but the window runs until February 1st, so anything can happen in that time span.
Haaland is a top priority for Chelsea
Erling Haaland is ruling Bundesliga with his out of the world performances for Borussia Dortmund
However, it is largely unlikely that the Blues will sign Haaland in this window. After spending a fortune last summer, Chelsea are not in a financially comfortable position to splash away more cash. Frank Lampard understands that his team is not performing at the level he wants them to. But he hopes to fix the issue soon and is also looking forward to making a couple more signings in the summer.
The Blues, like most other clubs, are short on funds due to the pandemic. With only limited to no fans watching games in stadiums, their revenues are taking a huge fall. Hence, we cannot expect Chelsea to make a move for Haaland now.
Chelsea will not be making a move for any new signings this window. But they are hoping to sign new recruits at the end of the season. In addition to Erling Haaland, Declan Rice of West Ham United is also a top target for the west Londoners. Frank believes signing the duo will breathe new life into the squad, helping them bag more victories.
Ampadu amazes Lampard
Chelsea has a list of players who circle in a loan deal season after season known as the loan army. Ethan Ampadu was a recent addition to that list after he joined Sheffield United on loan in the summer. But the youngster may have been able to surprise Lampard with his recent performance.
Sheffield United are 20th in the Premier League table and risk relegation at the moment. But the Blades were able to secure their first win of the season on Tuesday with Ampadu’s help. Sheffield defeated Newcastle United in a 1-0 victory. Though it was Billy Sharp who found the net from a penalty, Ampadu was the one controlling the game for the Blades.
Ethan Ampadu was the man of the match after his impressive game. Ampadu made an excellent display on Tuesday completing 88% of the passes, winning three tackles, making four clearances, and three interceptions. This was surely one of his best performances in a while.
If the youngster can keep up with the game, Frank Lampard may think about making him a part of his lineup. Ampadu is a talented young star. He showed his worth in the game on Tuesday. Frank Lampard will surely be surprised to see the performance from Ampadu.
