Chelsea are looking to strengthen their front line in the January transfer window in order to expand the number of goal scoring players. One of their targets, who has other offers too has decided his future.
Krzysztof Piatek has started off this season as one of football’s hottest prospects. Currently, on the books of Italian minnows Genoa, he has scored 13 goals in eight appearances across all competitions this season and has attracted the eye of a lot of top European clubs, which include the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Among the clubs which have been credited with the interest, it is Chelsea who are thought to be in the driving seat to land the Poland international. It is Piatek’s first season at Genoa and it is unlikely that the club will allow him to leave mid-way through his debut campaign. However, they are aware that Piatek could leave next summer if the interest from Europe’s superpowers continues.
As a result, they have slapped a price tag worth 60 million euros onto him. But the 23-year old’s agent confirmed that there has not been a formal approach for his candidate from any of the interested clubs. Szymon Pacanowski, the forward’s agent told Calcio Napoli 24, “Many clubs have contacted us, but there has been no formal offer, Many clubs have contacted us over the last few weeks, but I won’t name them. However, there has been no formal offer from any club, including Napoli. His value has certainly risen over the three months in Serie A, but right now we are happy to remain at Genoa.”
While Chelsea surely need to sign a striker or a goal scoring player to get the burden off Eden Hazard for a goal, it is too early to splash hefty money on Piatek. It is only the first season in which he has performed. So the best for Chelsea and every other team for that matter is to wait and see how his form continues.
