Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is bound to leave the club at the end of this season. The Austrian international demanded an increase in wages but that was reportedly denied by the club’s administration.
According to reports, Alaba’s agents were adamant that the player is at par with the pay scale of other experienced and long-standing Bayern Munich players such as Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, and Robert Lewandowski. However, that didn’t pan out well and both parties have decided that to part ways is the best option.
David Alaba had an extremely successful tenure at the Bavarian giants. He won 9 Bundesliga titles and was recently a mainstay in the defense department which got Bayern Munich their sixth European title. Hence the question arises as to which club or rather which league should David Alaba choose for his future venture? It has to be kept in mind that the player is currently 28 and is reaching close to an age wherein his abilities will not be at their peak.
Moreover, another thing that must be kept in mind is that the club should be able to afford Alaba’s high wages. The name of Chelsea is coming in at the moment. Will Frank Lampard pursue after Alaba?
What will Alaba bring into the Chelsea team?
Chelsea recruited a lot of world-class players during this year’s summer transfer window. The London giant’s spent extensively to improve their attacking as well as defensive frailties.
Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva all were brought in by Frank Lampard in a bid to secure the backline. However, Malang Sarr has been sent on loan and looks like a player for the future.
Hence the question – will Chelsea buy Alaba? Or rather why should Chelsea buy Alaba? It’s no doubt that David Alaba comes in with a ton load of experience. He’s a player who’s been playing at the top level for a long time.
With youngsters like Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma, and Andreas Christensen- he will be able to guide them as well. Plus another bonus advantage of Alaba is his versatility. The player can be used as a backup left-back option as well.
But many fans may give the argument- what happens to Thiago Silva then? Silva who made the switch from Paris Saint Germain is set to receive a contract extension. The fact of the matter is that Thiago Silva with his age won’t be able to play every match. In such situations keeping an experienced defender like David Alaba only results in positives.
Alaba favorite position known amid Rumours
According to BILD, Alaba is set to join Chelsea in the summer window of 2021. David Alaba will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Speaking to Kicker earlier this year, Alaba said: “We’ll see. I’ve played it now a few times. It works very well for the team because we have the ball very often and play high up the pitch. That suits me well.”
The Bayern man seems to still not sure whether he is ready to be a permanent centre-back in the future. Chelsea hopes of signing him could be blown away if the 28-year-old still wants to play as a left-back. It will be Lampard’s decision then as he seems his as a long-term replacement for 36-year-old Thiago Silva.
