Chelsea are desperate to have a 20-goal-a-season striker in order to finish in the Champions League places.
It’s an open secret that Chelsea are lacking in attacking third. Chelsea have scored the least number of goals in top 5. Sarri wants to bring a goal scoring striker. After the stalemate draw against Southampton, it seems Sarri desperately want a striker in the January transfer window. The F.A Cup champions have been told to break the bank to re-sign this former player.
Chelsea have been told to ‘break the bank’ to re-sign Diego Costa rather than move for Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema. The Blues made a fine start to the 2018-19 season under Maurizio Sarri but have fallen ten points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool following the festive period.
Eden Hazard has contributed ten of Chelsea’s 38 league goals this season, with strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud enduring difficult periods in front of goal. That has led to speculation that Sarri will try to sign a striker this month. The Blues were linked with moves for Higuain and Benzema.

But Peter Crouch believes Chelsea should instead look into re-signing Spain international Costa, who left Stamford Bridge last year. Crouch said in a column for the Daily Mail, “A return of 38 from 21 matches isn’t enough to win you a title, no matter how good your defence is. Chelsea have scored the fewest goals of the top six sides. The one thing you need is someone to score you 30 goals and they do not have a player like Harry Kane, Mo Salah or Sergio Aguero.”
He urged Chelsea to re-sign Diego Costa. Crouch said, “Not so long ago, they did. Diego Costa would absolutely transform Chelsea’s fortunes and, if it was down to me, I’d break the bank to re-sign him. You can talk about Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema, but I think Costa would be the one to take Chelsea where they want to be.”
Author’s Take:
Peter Crouch is right. If the F.A Cup Champions want to win the title and want to remain in the top 4 then they need a goal scoring striker. Given their latest blow in pursuit of Higuain, the Blues have to up the ante to sign a striker. Given the fallout between Costa and Chelsea, there wouldn’t be a deal. Sarri and Chelsea should instead recall Tammy Abraham and give him a chance.
