Chelsea Transfer News: The Blues are in touch with the representatives of Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule to discuss a possible free transfer.
The 26-year-old has apparently made a final decision on his contract position with the Bundesliga winners. He has turned down a contract extension, and his current contract expires in six months.
Niklas Sule Wants a New Challenge
Assuming all other factors remain constant, this opens the door to an enticing opportunity for many European giants. Sule’s list of suitors is long and the German international will be free to choose.
Barcelona has apparently joined the Premier League duo Chelsea and Newcastle United in the group of interested parties. This puts the Magpies in a more difficult position. Though they have the financial means to entice him to England due to the financial takeover, they face relegation and are currently 18th. Just 1 point below Norwich and the safe zone.
Sule has been free to lock down pre-contract arrangements since January 1, so it could come down to who acts first out of the three teams. Bayern had planned to reopen contract talks in February, but Sule wants a new challenge abroad. Hence, he has decided not to renew his contract with the club.
Sule’s representatives have apparently been in contact with Chelsea and Barcelona in particular. Another reason why the move to Newcastle is out of the question, is because the defender wants to play frequently for his country.
Andreas Christensen is one of the candidates to replace Sule at Bayern. His contract with Chelsea ends this season.
Chelsea Transfer News: Christensen’s New Contract Demands
Andreas Christensen is demanding for a new contract in order to continue at Chelsea. He has made a new demand for a substantial wage package to prolong his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, he is garnering a lot of interest from Bayern Munich in this position. The German giants are thought to have met with the defender’s entourage last month to express their interest. The Danish star is still considering the options and is searching for a raise.
The 25-year-old currently receives a pre-tax weekly wage of €100,000 (£84,000), putting him in the lower echelon of the West London club. He wants to quadruple his current salary and earn roughly €10 million (£8.4 million) per year.
Will Chelsea lose both its starting Centre-backs?
The club is on the verge of losing both Antonio Rudiger and Christensen for free if they do not reach an agreement with them soon. The Blues should sort out their contracts one by one without any further delay and make this a priority.
Moreover, Bayern has already met with Christensen’s agency in December. The two defenders are quite similar since both prefer to play as a right-sided centre-back. The Blues should be fine if they lose one of them, but should try to keep both. But losing both for free would just be bad business on their part.
