Chelsea Transfer news: Malang Sarr joined the Blues on a Bosman deal in the summer transfer window of 2020. The French defender spent last season on loan at FC Porto, where he made 8 league appearances before returning to Stamford Bridge at the start of the current season.
The 22-year-old struggled for his game time under Thomas Tuchel this season, making just five appearances in all competitions thus far. He has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent months.
Chelsea Transfer news: AC Milan looking to sign Malang Sarr on loan
The Rossoneri are currently in the transfer market for a new centre back after losing Simon Kjaer due to an ACL injury last month. The Denmark international is unlikely to play again this season.
Milan have identified Lille’s Sven Botman as their primary target, but the French club are reluctant to sell Botman. They are hence exploring alternative options to the Dutch defender and have shortlisted Sarr for a potential loan deal. Manchester City’s Nathan Aké and Manchester United’s Eric Bailly are other options they are considering signing on loan this month.
Apart from AC Milan, Watford, AS Roma, Watford, and Torino have also shown interest in signing Sarr recently. However, the Blues are lined up for a busy fixture schedule ahead, coupled with injuries to several key defenders. The London-based club might decide against selling or loaning Sarr this window.
Thomas Tuchel praised Malang Sarr for his recent performances
Malang Sarr featured in the Blues’ last two games against Tottenham and Chesterfield FC, respectively. He impressed in both games which drove praise from manager Thomas Tuchel.

“He appreciates to be in the team and when is necessary he steps up and shows he can be a strong teammate and player.”
The Blues have recorded victories in their last two cup games against Tottenham and Chesterfield FC, respectively. They will next play Spurs in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals prior to tussling against Manchester City in a league game on January 15.
Meanwhile, AC Milan are second in the Serie A table with 48 points from 21 games. They will next play Genoa in Coppa Italia before facing Spezia in the league on January 17.
