Chelsea Transfer News: As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has arrived in Italy to complete the final formalities ahead of his Inter Milan move. The medical has been scheduled for today and he will be running through all the tests.
The Belgian attacker joined Chelsea last summer for an astonishing fee of around £100m. He left San Siro to join Chelsea for the second time after leaving the club back in 2014.
Many thought that this move could stamp his name in the history and he would complete his chapter at the club. However, as we call it, he has been a flop for Chelsea.
Lukaku struggled for game-time as Thomas Tuchel was not convinced by the work rate. He started just 16 games for Chelsea over the course of one year.
Chelsea News: Romelu Lukaku Had Expressed His Desire To Leave After Being at Chelsea For Just Six Months
The former Inter Milan striker had an interview with an Italian publication way back in December. He openly expressed the fact that things aren’t going as he wanted and he doesn’t rule out a return to San Siro in the future.
The Chelsea board was not happy with Romelu Lukaku’s comments as they wanted him to show professionalism. Thomas Tuchel acted swiftly and didn’t allow him to be a part of his squad for a few league matches.
However, Romelu Lukaku apologized to the Chelsea fans for his words. It still indicated that he never committed himself to the London side.
New Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Thomas Tuchel had already agreed to the fact that they didn’t want to keep wanted players. Boehly wants to sign two wingers and a center-back and for that, he needs to balance the wage structure.
Chelsea News: Petr Cech Disagreed With Todd Boehly Over Romelu Lukaku Loan Move
Chelsea’s Technical and performance advisor Petr Cech has left the club after three years at the helm. However, he had talked to Boehly regarding the entire Lukaku situation.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper didn’t want the Belgian striker to leave on loan as it would negatively impact his Chelsea career. But, Todd Boehly was very clear that he doesn’t consider keeping players who are eating up his wage bills.
Romelu Lukaku was a star at Inter Milan as he had scored 64 goals in 95 appearances. But he was never able to replicate his form at Chelsea and now holds high optimism that his career would come on track with a return to Inter Milan.
