Chelsea transfer news: Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge over the last few weeks. The duo struggled with poor form and injuries since their moves from RB Leipzig and Ajax FC respectively.
Werner arrived at Chelsea for £47.5 million in the summer transfer window of 2020. He played 43 league games for the club thus far, scoring just seven goals. He managed to start just five games this season, finding the back of the net just once.
On the other hand, Hakim Ziyech also joined the Blues during the summer transfer window of 2020. He made 30 Premier League appearances in Chelsea’s shirt so far, scoring three times.
The duo is competing with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic for the three spots in Chelsea’s attack.
Chelsea transfer news: Thomas Tuchel blocks Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech’s January exit, despite board approval
According to reports by Spanish newspaper Sport(via Sport Witness), Thomas Tuchel blocked the January exits of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech despite the duo getting permission from the board to leave on loan in January.
Tuchel doesn’t want to weaken his squad midway through the season and wants to have a large squad at his disposal. The German manager commands high respect at the club after he guided the Blues to Champions League success last season. He also won the UEFA Super Cup with the Blues earlier this season.
Barcelona were among the clubs that showed interest in signing the pair on loan during the upcoming transfer window. They are currently short of options in attack and are reportedly ‘moving heaven and earth’ to sign a new attacker.
The 26-times Spanish champions lost Lionel Messi for free to PSG last summer, while Sergio Aguero is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Blaugrana also inquired about signing Ferran Torres from Manchester City. However, Barca are currently in the middle of financial troubles and might not be able to fund the move. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Edinson Cavani are other Premier League players who have been linked with Barcelona in recent weeks.
Chelsea slipped to third place in the Premier League table after a 3-2 defeat against West Ham United last weekend. They will make a long trip to Russia to play FC Zenit in the Champions League next before hosting Leeds United for a league game on December 11.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have struggled in the league this season and are currently seventh in the La Liga table. They will go up against Bayern Munich in their next UEFA Champions League game on December 9.
