Chelsea are looking for players to solve their defensive problems.
Chelsea needs another piece to fit in their defensive puzzle. Frank Lampard has taken added enough attacking talent to the squad. The arrival of Ziyech and Werner will certainly make the Blues’ attack one to reckon with.
But Lampard still has to look at the defensive issues for the club. Chelsea has been very poor defensively this season. The club has conceded 54 goals in the Premier League. Which is 15 more than last season’s figure of 39 goals conceded.
A lot of blame can be assigned to injury to key players. Kepa Arrizabalaga hasn’t been really impressive in goal too. But still, the players at the club are not enough to stop the top clubs in England.
Kurt Zouma has had injury problems for quite some time now. This season his form has been inconsistent too. Christensen has been very poor since the restart. And Rudiger too faced an injury after the restart.
Considering the situation it is clear that the club needs another center back. Accordingly, Chelsea has been scouting various players for that role. John Stones and Gabriel Magalhaes were linked with the club.
Chelsea was also scouting Matthias Ginter in the past few days. But it looks like that the club won’t find any success in his pursuit. The German has decided that he will stay at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Matthias Ginter is keen on staying with Borussia Monchengladbach
Ginter has had an excellent season with Gladbach this year. The player is the center of their defense and a key part of the squad. In this season he played 36 matches for the club. Monchengladbach finished in a top 4 spot this season and Ginter has been a key part of that.
Chelsea was very impressed with his abilities and he was on the club’s radar. But according to Talk Sport Ginter is not really interested in a move away from Monchengladbach. “I will definitely stay in Gladbach.” This was Ginter’s statement regarding a move.
Ginter’s contract with the club is until 2021. But the German club has the option of extending it for another year. However, considering the player wants to stay a new contract will be on its way for Ginter.
Now that Ginter is out of the picture Chelsea will have to look at other alternatives. John Stones is a very good candidate for the club, as he has Premier League experience and could gel in well with the Blues.
If Ake joins City, Stones will surely be available. The club could also try for Dayot Upamecano of Leipzig. Upamecano could follow in Werner’s footsteps and join the Blues. Werner could help in facilitating a deal.
Jose Gimenez from Atletico is also on the club’s radar. The defender has been great for Atletico Madrid. A price tag of 50 million was discussed for the defender’s services. All in all, it won’t be surprising if Frank Lampard decides to bring in another center back.
