When Conte arrived at Chelsea, it was rumoured that Chelsea striker Costa will be moving back to Atletico Madrid. His dip in form during last season was considered as the main reason. During the pre season friendly games in America, Conte refused to pick Diego Costa, complaining an injury for him.

As per Daily Mail, Conte asked Roman Abramovich, that he wanted to sign Gonzalo Higuain or Edison Cavani to compete with his old club Juventus. But later as he couldn’t sign either of them, Costa was made the first choice in his preference.

Conte took Spanish striker aside for a private conversation where Costa demanded reassurances over his future. Since then Costa has been firing for the Blues helping them reach top of the table.

Costa is regarded as a player who receives yellow card more often than any striker. In the first 6 games, he got 4 yellow cards which built an additional pressure for both manager and player. Later in October during a match against Leicester , Costa was on the verge of getting another yellow card. Tensions boiled over again when Conte signaled him to come off.

But Conte decided not to substitute him allowing Costa to play the whole game. Later in dressing room after the match, the pair reportedly clashed. But Conte deflected attention away by claiming Costa was worried about picking up fifth yellow card of the season.

Since that incident, Costa has changed a lot both in terms of discipline and also goal scoring. In the last nine games, he hasn’t received single yellow card.

In addition to that, Costa’s four yellow cards will be wiped off if he avoids a booking before New Year’s Day.  Conte would not swap his centre forward as he has fallen for Costa head over heels. Chelsea have won nine consecutive games, conceding just two goals in that period.
