N’Golo Kante joined Chelsea on a five year deal from the current EPL champions, Leicester City. The 25 year old was signed by the Blues for a fee of £30 million after being linked with big European clubs including Real Madrid, throughout the summer.
The Frenchman has revealed that he turned down Manchester United before his deal with Chelsea was complete.
The 25 year old defensive midfielder further explained why he rejected an offer from Jose Mourinho, the new Manchester United manager.
‘It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d been warned before how he would appeal to me.’ The Frenchman said.
‘I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United. But at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea.’
‘My discussions with them were already well underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with [Antonio] Conte.’
The defensive midfielder has already made a brilliant start to his career at the Stamford Bridge after featuring in wins against West Ham, Watford and Burnley making it a perfect start for Chelsea under new manager Antonio Conte.
Manchester United might have made marquee signings in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan but they have surely missed out on Premier League’s best defensive midfielder last season.
Kante guided his former team, Leicester to their first EPL title and was regarded as the architect in Leicester’s victorious Premier League campaign.
