Chicago Fire signs Manchester United midfielder Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger, one of the most decorated German players of all times has decided to switch continents. Currently playing for Manchester United, he will be moving on to the MLS this week or sooner. Chicago Fire, a struggling MLS side has availed the services of Bastian, who is also called “Tiger” by his fans. Fire is right now working on a project to build a team around experienced footballers to aid their rise through the ranks. There are many reasons why this move happened, the most obvious being Mourinho.

Schweinsteiger in Manchester United:

One of the headline transfers of 2015 was Schweinsteiger joining Manchester United. A side which was struggling post-Alex Ferguson had somehow found some balance under Van Gaal. The decision of Bayern to sell one of their most experienced and loyal players came as a shock to many. Many touted age as one of the factors behind the decision. He has had his moments with the club, but the German has never been a first team regular.

German's international farewell left him in tears.
German’s international farewell left him in tears.

Things got worse for him once Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford. The Portuguese manager never seemed to consider Bastian a part of his plans. The player has made barely any appearances for the Red Devils this season. It came to a point where he was pushed to train with the youth squad. He has mostly been used as a substitute as the likes of Fellaini, Herrera, Pogba and Carrick are chosen over him. Despite these factors, he has always been a fan favourite and the applause of the crowds is phenomenal every time he steps on the pitch.

Chicago Fire prospects:

Chicago Fire’s manager was spotted with him in November. At that point of time, Schweinsteiger probably asked for some time to consider the offer. The German playmaker wanted to fight his way through for a place in the lineups. Despite the best of his efforts, things didn’t click with the manager and his situation never improved. Therefore, he decided it is best for his career he makes a move to another club.

With a pay of $4.5 million a year, Schweinsteiger will be making good money in America. The Chicago management has shown a lot of intent to build a team. The team has finished with the lowest points in the past couple of season. The manager of the club wants to work towards a point where they can challenge for the highest honours. Someone as experienced and talented as Schweinsteiger will surely be a big boost for the side. On top of that, at 32 the German still has a good amount of play time left in him to compete at the highest levels of the game.
