Chinese Club denies transfer links to a Barcelona player

Javier Mascherano has been linked with a move to China in January but the CSL club has denied any kind of links to the defender.

The Argentine’s golden time of almost 8-years is nearing the end at the Camp Nou as he has been linked with a move to China. But Hebei CFFC, the club linked with Mascherano, has denied the story about his transfer. Hebei CFFC’s spokesperson has spoken to the media in China and cleared the air around the rumors.

“There’s nothing to say. The club hierarchy are not even aware of this [story].” He said while talking to New Express.

Barcelona director Guillermo Amor also recently talked about the defender’s situation at the club.

“What happens with Mascherano we will see soon. We have to see the movements and how everything happens.” Amor told Movistar.“Mascherano is a captain, he is a winner and he is very important for us, when he plays and when he does not play when he is injured or on the bench.”

The 33-year old arrived at Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010. The defensive midfielder was shifted to the center of the defense by Pep Guardiola. The move worked wonders for Barcelona as the Argentine formed a formidable partnership at the back, first with Puyol and with Pique after the former’s retirement.

The veteran has won 17 trophies for the Blaugrana. But with Samuel Umtiti’s arrival last season, Mascherano has been demoted to the bench. The versatile player is currently struggling with a hamstring injury and is expected to make his come-back late in December.

Author’s Take:

Mascherano has been one of the best Barcelona players for years now. But the club has found his replacement in Umtiti and its time for the defender to move on as well. A Chinese club has denied the move, but Mascherano is still capable of playing for many teams in Europe and can push for the move in January. After all, he needs to have match practice before he flies to Russia for World Cup.
