Conte has made an astonishing claim on what shapes his future at Chelsea

The Blues’ manager Antonio Conte has stated that he does not need to win trophies to make sure his job is safe at Stamford Bridge.

Having won the Premier League title in his debut season at Chelsea last year, the Italian boss set the club standards at a very high level. But after failing to mount a title defence this season, Conte’s job has put him under scrutiny.

There are heavy rumours floating around London regarding a sack in the next few weeks, but Conte, who won the Serie A title three years in a row with Juventus, stated that it’s close to impossible to win the League every season.

Recent defeats against Bournemouth and Watford have come as a humiliation to the Premier League winners, but Conte explained why he should not have to win silverware to keep his job.

Conte Says Trophies Are Irrelevant-

With his job on the line, an under pressure Conte revealed, “I think that you continue to work with a manager or coach not because of what he achieves in one season, but because you trust in him, Then you build something with him. But it doesn’t mean you have to win something because that’s not simple. Especially in England, it’s not simple.”

“In my vision, you can win but, at the same time, the club might not be happy to stay with you. For this reason, it’s right to send the coach away.”

The 48-year-old also said, “I think the most important thing is to understand the situation and understand what your targets are, For sure, when you start a season, all these six top teams want to fight for something important, for the title.”

“Then, sometimes it can happen like it did for us last season. Other times you have to fight for a place in the Champions League, like this season. But to try and forecast is very difficult. You have to finish this season in the right way, too.”

Author’s Take-

I believe that Chelsea is going through a difficult time, but it’s far from a crisis, it will show the true character of the players and the board if Chelsea sticks by Conte. Or else, it may be the same old case of sacking a manager for results. The Barcelona tie in the Champions League will be a defining move in Conte’s time at Chelsea as the La Liga leaders are playing some of the best football in Europe.
