Is the Time Right for Arjun Tendulkar to Make His IPL Debut?

It is not easy being Arjun Tendulkar when you are endlessly in the limelight. Arjun, the son of the renowned Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has been always under the roots of parallels and tangled to find his own way out.

The bowling all-rounder has been in and out of form since his professional debut in 2010. However, it seems like Arjun Tendulkar has finally soared back into form and an Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the youngster could be imminent.

Earlier, the 23-year-old was hired by the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League in 2021, with a base salary of 20 lakhs. A. Tendulkar was, however, declared out for the remainder of the IPL season after only a few days due to an injury acquired in the practice game itself, and was unable to make his league debut.

Soon after, the Mumbai-based franchise again purchased Arjun Tendulkar for 30 lakhs for IPL 2022, but the left-arm-medium pacer was yet again sidelined for the entire season. On 15th November, Mumbai Indians announced a 16-member retained squad for the 16th edition of IPL in 2023, and surprisingly Arjun Tendulkar was included in that list.

Arjun Tendulkar had previously played for Mumbai in domestic cricket(Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021), but after not obtaining enough appearances, he decided to transfer teams, and it appears that the decision has been a great one for the young player. The Indian youngster is currently representing Goa in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

The southpaw played his first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 against Andra Pradesh, which was washed out before claiming a couple of scalps against Bihar. Soon after, on a surface where Tamil Nadu orchestrated 373/4 in 50 overs courtesy of Sai Sudarshan 117 (112) and N Jagadeeshan 168 (140), Arjun picked up two crucial wickets and deserted the sinking ship of Goa in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 match.

Recently, Arjun Tendulkar secured two wickets against Chhattisgarh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, conceding just 44 runs over the course of his ten overs. From an overall perspective, the left-arm-medium pacer has acclaimed seven scalps in six encounters in Vijay Hazare so far.

Earlier in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, in the group encounter against a formidable Hyderabad team, Arjun recorded his best T20 stats of 4 for 10. In his first over, Arjun Tendulkar only permitted one run to be scored, and in his third over, he produced a maiden before claiming two scalps in the death overs. In his stint, Arjun produced 17 dot deliveries.

Arjun Tendulkar has been a part of the team for the previous two years, but he has yet to make an appearance. But in all likelihood, Arjun might do well for himself in the next IPL 2023 season attributable to his recent turnaround, especially in the absence of experienced players like Kieron Pollard.
