Harshal Patel will never forget breaking into the Indian set-up after the 2021 T20 World Championships. On the back of an impressive IPL run, Harshal has scored quite a long run with India’s T20I team as an expert bowler. Ahead of the 2022 T20 World Championships, he appeared in 21 matches and took 22 wickets.

India has had a long list of injured players in recent months and few players missed the T20 World Cup. However, the Indian team’s depth has made it possible for the management to choose suitable stand-ins.

Few of the injured players have been overshadowed by either the substitute’s impressive performances. And also team’s busy schedule in India has successfully shifted focus to the next series.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra asked the selectors a scathing question during the game at the opening of the T20I series between India and New Zealand.

Harshal Patel was not selected

He was subsequently ruled out of the Asian Cup due to injury. Patel returned to the T20 World Championships. But was one of two players who did not play a single match in the tournament.

He then played just one match each in the New Zealand and Sri Lanka Series after the World Cup. And he is currently not selected for competition against New Zealand.

Former player Aakash Chopra questioned the absence of fast bowler Harshal Patel. Arshdeep Singh gave up 27 runs in the final over of the first T20I.

Before the 2022 T20 World Cup, Harshal Patel was one of the key bowlers for India. However, he was unable to play games after Mohammed Shami returned to the T20I lineup in India very late in the build-up of the tournament.

India considers younger pacers

At the opening of his T20I series in India and New Zealand, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra asked the decision-makers directly.

After a disappointing 2021 T20 World Championship, Harshal Patel has joined the Indian line-up. Harshal had a very long career with his T20I team in India. He was an expert bowler after his stint in the IPL of excellence.

‘What’s the latest on Harshal Patel? Is he still injured? He’s leading to the World Cup he’s T20 he was a specialist…he couldn’t play in Australia. I haven’t seen him since. #IndvNZ,” he tweeted Aakash.

At this point in Harshal’s 32-year career, it’s doubtful the selectors will be re-elected. India are considering younger pace replacements such as Shivam Mavi, Ashdeep Singh, and Umran Malik in preparation for T20 World Cup next year.
