Cost of all IPL teams, IPL 2023: The Indian Premier League is the most popular cricket league in the world. A lot of investment funds and private entities want to get into the lucrative setup. 

IPL teams are valued in billions of dollars by the business fraternity across the world. We all saw the excitement and eagerness of various global business entities to buy new IPL teams recently.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – 425 crores

Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by the SUN Group which bought the IPL team in 2013. According to the Times of India, the Tamil Nadu-based entity put out ₹425 crores to buy Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Rajasthan Royals – 508 crores

Rajasthan Royals saw a lot of changes in the ownership arena after the 2015 spot-fixing scandal. Manoj Badale (owner of Emerging Media Pvt. Ltd) and Tresco International Ltd bought the team for ₹508 crores in the inaugural edition.

Kolkata Knight Riders – 569 crores

Kolkata Knight Riders were one of the most talked about franchises in the beginning years. It is because Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla owned it. Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group bought the franchise for ₹569 crores.

Punjab Kings – 576 crores

In another joint venture partnership, Punjab Kings (Kings XI Punjab) was bought at ₹576 crores. It was a joint bid from Preity Zinta, and a group of businessmen Ness Wadia, Karan Paul, and Mohit Burman who won the bid.

Delhi Capitals – 630 crores

Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils) was bought by GMR Group for ₹630 crores before the inaugural edition. However, Jindal South West group took hold of a 50% stake in 2018 making it a joint venture with GMR Group.

Chennai Super Kings – 689 crores

Chennai Super Kings were bought at a meager price of ₹689 crores by India Cements group under the leadership of N. Srinivasan. The massive profits have now made Chennai Super Kings the first sports unicorn in India with a market cap of ₹7600 crores.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – 845 crores

Vijay Mallya‘s Kingfisher group forked out ₹845 crores to buy Royal Challengers Bangalore. But national financial criminal Vijay Mallya had to leave the ownership after running away to London. United Spirits, Diageo is the present majority shareholder of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians – 850 crores

Mumbai Indians have now become a global brand under the umbrella of MI global teams. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries bought it just for ₹850 crores. The profits are far outweighing such a huge amount.

Gujarat Titans – 5600 crores

Gujarat Titans stands as the second most expensive IPL team in history. CVC Capital Partners bid a whopping ₹5600 crores beating the likes of Glazers, Adani Group, etc.

Lucknow Super Giants – 7090 crores

The news of a ₹7090 crore bid for the Lucknow-based team by RPSG Group took everyone by surprise. No one could ever imagine that an IPL team could cost half a billion dollars.
