David Warner WTC finals: David Warner returned to Australia from India last month after sustaining a fractured elbow and a head injury in the series’ second Test. India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 2-1.
Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has left the door open for David Warner to play in the World Test Championship Final against India. Despite a series loss to India, Australia qualified for the WTC final.
The Australian opener has also struggled to score consistently in recent times, with 571 runs in 11 matches since 2022. He only managed 36 runs in the previous three Tests.
“At the moment Dave’s fully in our plans for the World Test Championship, he’s coming back for the one-day series, he’s recovered from his injury there,” Andrew McDonald said.
Warner may retire from test cricket after the WTC Finals

Aside from a 200 against South Africa in December, David Warner has struggled in recent Tests. The Australian media has speculated that he may retire after the WTC final.
David Warner struggled during his tour of India. He only scored 26 in three innings before being substituted out of the second Test in Delhi.
Following that, speculation regarding his career rose ahead of Australia’s upcoming WTC and Ashes tour to England, where he has struggled against the swinging ball and averaged 26 (with a top score of 85) from 25 innings.
On discussing the Australians’ route to the WTC final, the head coach stated that it was not an easy one. McDonald, however, admitted that the squad did not fulfill its goals for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
