Rohit Sharma will play his first international match after India’s 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England at the T20 World Cup. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, will meet Bangladesh, the hosts, in the ODI series opener on Sunday.

Ravi Shastri, former Indian head coach, had famously said that Virat Kohli’s character and personality has rubbed off on his teammates, when an injured Team India defied all odds and defeated Australia in the 2020-2021 edition of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

A year later, Rohit Sharma gets appointed as India’s full-time Test captain after Virat Kohli, India’s most successful Test captain, stepped down from the position.

Rohit Sharma had high hopes of matching legendary MS Dhoni at the grandest stage in his debut World Cup campaign as India’s captain. Despite starting strong, India, led by Rohit, was thrown out of the T20 World Cup in the semi-finals by subsequent champions England.

The opener will lead India in the upcoming ODI (One Day International) series against Bangladesh. Maninder Singh, the former Indian cricketer, opined that Rohit should take inspiration from Virat Kohli during a media interaction organised by the Sony Sports Network.

“When you not scoring runs, then things become difficult for the captain also on the field,” says Maninder Singh

Maninder told Hindustan Times in a media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network that no matter how much we say that a captain only thinks about his team and not his performance if he is not performing well, it affects the team’s performance as well.

Rohit still has a point to prove after a forgetful batting at the T20 World Cup

While Kohli, the batting icon, came out as the chief run-getter for India at the T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma struggled throughout the ICC (International Cricket Council) event. He averaged only 19.33 and scored runs at a strike rate of only 106.42.

Maninder says that he still feels Rohit Sharma has got a lot of cricket left in him and is a game-changer. He hopes that in the time off between the T20 World Cup and the Bangladesh series, Rohit would have thought about his shortcomings, worked on them, and comes back strong.
