The former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh thinks Chennai Super Kings need to find an alternative to MS Dhoni from the IPL 2023 season.
CSK, the four-time IPL champions could not do well in the last season. They finished ninth in the points table with only four wins in 14 matches.
Ravindra Jadeja captained the team in eight matches, while Dhoni was the leader of the remaining six. Although Dhoni’s leadership could not help CSK prevail on most occasions, it was the change in attitude and mindset of the players, which often changes under him.
From a personal perspective, Dhoni had an average season with 232 runs in 13 innings at an average of 33.14. According to the reports, the 2023 season can be Dhoni’s final appearance as a player for CSK.

The 41-year-old can mark his presence as a coaching staff for CSK but can call time on his playing career after the 2023 season.

Harbhajan reckoned that Dhoni’s best cricket is behind him but thinks none of the players in the squad have the captaincy skills as of the former India skipper.

The Turbanator added that the franchise will have to be on its toes to find Dhoni’s replacement as a leader, who can take CSK forward.
“They have a lot of work to do. Dhoni’s best cricket is behind him as well. Yes, he is the best captain today also. You will have to find an option for him as well, who can come along with Dhoni who can take the team forward.”
Recently, CSK released the Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who played a key role for them for the last decade.
With IPL 2023 mini-auction scheduled in December, CSK will certainly need to secure the services of an experienced player, who can also be the leader of the franchise.
