“If People Are Saying, You Feel Good About It,” Hardik Pandya on Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri backing him fully for T20I captaincy

Hardik Pandya has expressed his happiness after Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri recommended him for full-time Indian T20I captaincy.

In recent, Ravi Shastri reckoned that Rohit Sharma is leading India across three formats, and thinks it would be a good idea to pass the T20I baton to Hardik Pandya. Furthermore, Sunil Gavaskar has time and again lauded the leadership qualities of the all-rounder for T20I captaincy.

Hardik Pandya proved his mettle as a captain when he led the Gujarat Titans to a title victory in the IPL 2022. Along with much-needed composure, Hardik Pandya contributed in both departments to the team’s victories.

On the back of the title victory, the selectors awarded Hardik Pandya with a leadership role in Ireland T20Is. Under his captaincy, India secured a 2-0 clean sweep.

Hardik Pandya captained the team in the T20I series against New Zealand this month. After the first game was washed out, India secured a 65-run victory in the second game.

Afterwards, the third game ended as a tie, and India won the series 1-0. As a result, Hardik Pandya’s success record with the T20I team remained intact.

After the series win, Hardik Pandya reckoned that the outside pressure wouldn’t affect him, and will lead the team his own way. However, he added that an official announcement is yet to receive from BCCI pertaining to the captaincy in T20Is.

“If people are saying, you feel good about it, but till something happens (official announcement), you can’t say. To be honest, my thing is simple, if I do one match or one series, I will lead the team my way, how I see and perceive the game.”

India will be playing a three-match ODI and T20I series against the Kiwi team on home soil in January. It will be interesting to see the development ahead of the series on BCCI’s choice for the captain in this series.
