Bazball has been a hot topic in the world of cricket ever since Brendon McCullum took over as the head coach of the England Team in tests. The term is derived from England boss McCullum who was nicknamed, Baz, during his playing days with New Zealand.
Since becoming the head coach, McCullum’s approach has been to adopt an aggressive style of play that focuses on attacking the opposition and providing entertainment to the crowd. Bazball prioritizes high-scoring matches over defensive cricket, where the emphasis is on preserving wickets.
This tactic encourages teams to take risks in their pursuit of victory rather than playing it safe. Bazball has garnered significant recognition and acclaim from the cricketing community, with the style of play being lauded as highly entertaining and visually appealing.
Additionally, the strategy has yielded excellent results, with England winning ten out of eleven Test matches since McCullum became head coach.

Ashwin on Bazball: In certain conditions, you will falter
The term ‘Bazball’ or we should say an approach has been providing results for the England Cricket team but their captain Ben Stokes doesn’t like the word ‘Bazball’ and stated that it is just English Test cricket. The all-rounder said that term keeps coming up despite suggesting people to avoid it.
India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin did not appear entirely convinced with the aggressive batting approach, expressing his belief that it may not be effective in certain types of conditions.

“We now have a concept called Bazball. England is playing high-paced Test match cricket. They want to play a certain style of cricket. But in certain types of wicket, when you try and attack every ball, you will falter. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this approach,” Ashwin said.
“There may be individuals who question the decision to push for a total of 140 runs instead of defending and aiming for 100 runs. The success of this approach will only be revealed as the game progresses.
It’s important to acknowledge that certain conditions on the pitch must be given proper consideration and handled accordingly. By showing respect for the pitch and playing accordingly, one may gain the respect of the pitch, resulting in advantageous outcomes.” The veteran spinner further explained his views on Bazball.
