IND vs AUS: PM Narendra Modi’s presence along with his Australian counterpart at the grand ceremony held at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium broke out an ugly war of words between Congress and BJP. The fourth and final test match of BGT began on Thursday morning where the pre-match ceremony became the hot topic instead of Cricket.
The Australian Prime Minister is presently on a diplomatic tour of the Indian subcontinent, during which he was invited by Narendra Modi to attend the final match between Australia and India in Ahmedabad. A ceremony was held to celebrate 75 years of friendship between both India and Australia.
It was called ’75 years of friendship through cricket’ because Australia was the first team on tour to an Independent India. Before the start of the match, Jay Amit Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, honored Modi with a felicitation. At the same time, BCCI President Binny presented an honor to Albanese.
Following a traditional song and dance performance, the prime ministers of both nations presented Test caps to the respective captains of the cricket teams – Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith. As Rohit approached the stage, PM Narendra Modi welcomed him by shaking his hand and presenting him with his Test cap. After that, PM Modi greeted Steve Smith as well.

The two prime ministers also took a ride in a moving vehicle around the stadium, where they greeted the fans and waved at them. In addition to the above events, both prime ministers also jointly inaugurated the Hall of Fame at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Which is a tribute to the cricketing friendship between the two countries. Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was seen enlightening the two leaders about the significance of India-Australia Test matches.
India’s opposition party Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig at PM Modi for the lap of honour across the Narendra Modi Stadium. He tweeted, “Doing a lap of honour in a stadium you named after yourself in your own lifetime— height of self-obsession,”.
Looking at Congress General Secretary hitting out at their leader, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya shared a photograph from the event and said, “Cricket diplomacy. It works.”
Modi and Albanese did a lap of honour across the ground on a specially designed golf car to mark the occasion of 75 years of friendship between India and Australia.
