Shubman Gill Six against Lyon, IND vs AUS: It has been a not-so-desirable beginning for the fourth and final test in the India VS Australia test series from India’s point of view. Australia batters put on a great show as they amassed a total of 480 after getting out near the end of the second day.
The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had the work cut out for them as they had to not only score well and score fast as well. This was because a win in this match is crucial for India if they wish to qualify for the World Test Championship 2023 final.
Day 2’s last ten overs were the responsibility of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. They presented a positive attitude, but in the final over of the day, Gill surprised the skipper by hitting a six against the Australian spinner, Nathan Lyon.
Shubman Gill recalled that shot and mentioned that despite Rohit Sharma‘s surprise on the other side, he was confident he could hit the ball for a boundary and backed himself. The 23-year-old is especially good at playing spin, and Gill didn’t hesitate to go for the big shot because the pitch in Ahmedabad is pretty flat.

Gill told the media after the stumps on day 3 that Rohit was really surprised that he decided to go for a big shot rather than play it safe to end the day.
He added that if the pitch was like the one they were playing on and on the other end was an off-spinner, then he would go for the shot all day. The shot Gill plays is up to him and if he feels confident enough to pay for the shot, then he would go for it.
India’s chances of winning
The chances of any one side winning the match is pretty bleak as of now. India still trails behind Australia as we near the end of session 2 of day 4. What adds to the pressure to win is that any other result other than a win cannot qualify them for the finals of the World Test Championship 2023 Finals.
All of the India batters got good starts but only Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were able to convert them into high scores. Gill’s 128 propelled India on the 3rd day of the test, whereas Kohli stole the show after his dismissal. Fans around the world witnessed Kohli’s First half-century and century in fourteen months.
In the evening session, the Indian batters may display some fireworks and gain a significant advantage. However, compared to the previous three days, the pitch appears to have become significantly slower and the ball appears to remain slightly lower. Given the remaining time, it will be difficult to select an additional ten wickets on this surface.
India will want to advance to the World Test Championship final by winning this match and the three-match series 3-1. Sri Lanka will advance to the WTC final against Australia if they lose this match and Sri Lanka wins their ongoing series against New Zealand 2-0. The WTC final will take place in June at the Oval between India and Australia.
