Delhi Capitals Auction, IPL 2023: Overall, the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction was unsatisfactory for Delhi Capitals (DC).

DC had a great chance to bolster their roster with only five spots to fill and 19.45 crore in their bank account. But the Capitals chose to strengthen their backup players rather than make any major acquisitions.

Things have gotten worse for the franchise as a result of Rishabh Pant’s possible unavailability. However, Delhi was able to fill a few gaps with the five players they acquired. These three problems were resolved by DC in the IPL 2023 sale.

3. DC have more experience in their batting unit

The backup batters for DC in IPL 2022 were inconsistent, which was one of their problems. The likes of Sarfaraz Khan didn’t get enough chances in a well-known role, while Mandeep Singh, KS Bharat, and Lalit Yadav didn’t have much of an effect with the bat.

The Capitals looked for experience in their batting acquisitions in the IPL 2023 auction in an effort to rectify that. Rilee Rossouw brought in 4.6 crores, while Manish Pandey joined the club for 2.4 crores. Both hitters are experienced veterans who will be very valuable to the team.

If Rishabh Pant doesn’t recover in time for the season, Pandey might play a significant part while Rossouw might not make the starting XI. This year, DC’s batting lineup has a slightly more worn appearance, which could be useful if their skipper were to get injured.

2. DC snapped up two backup Indian pacers

The Indian pacers for DC, who were on the list before the IPL 2023 auction, have a history of getting hurt. Over the past few years, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Khaleel Ahmed, and Chetan Sakariya have experienced a variety of fitness issues, and they cannot be counted on to participate in every game of the season.

Therefore, on December 23, the Capitals had to strengthen that division, which they duly did. DC acquired the veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma for his basic price in addition to signing Mukesh Kumar for a whopping 5.5 crore.

The two are primarily new-ball specialists, but the latter adds a wealth of knowledge to the table while the former has a lot of room for improvement. In the IPL mini-auctions, it has always been challenging to find good Indian pacers, so DC did everything they could to offer themselves a wide range of options.

1. DC signed a wicketkeeper in Phil Salt

If Pant does not show up for IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals may be in serious danger. The team’s most crucial batter is likely the captain, and the lineup’s success this season was highly dependent on him.

Although they didn’t actively seek any domestic glovemen, the Capitals were fortunate enough to sign a wicketkeeper at the IPL 2023 auction. If Pant is unable to participate, Phil Salt, who has established himself as a key component of England’s white-ball setup, was purchased for his base price and is expected to join the starting lineup.

DC’s only other choice is Sarfaraz Khan, who has rarely kept wickets. Thus, Salt might be given more duty in IPL 2023 and prove to be a wise acquisition.
