IPL 2023: A handful of players are under contract to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on discounted terms in preparation for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Their performance in the auction was encouraging because they were able to pick up reputable domestic acts without going overboard with their budget. SRH already had a few names on their records for pitiful sums prior to the auction.
The foundation of the bowling lineup has been players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan, who are expected to make a combined $8.2 crore.
However, some of the other stars on the list have blatantly fallen short of expectations. Here are three SRH stars who have excessively expensive IPL 2023 contracts.

3. Abdul Samad

Prior to the IPL 2022 mega-auction, SRH decided to keep Abdul Samad on. He was in the 4 crore range because he had no limit and has been kept for that sum ever since. Samad has displayed flashes of his extraordinary talent, but he has failed to live up to his promise or his price tag.
He appeared in just two games of the IPL 2021 season, averaging 12.33 with a strike rate of 127.58. With only 54 balls bowled in his career, the powerful batter’s occasional leg spin has also failed to have an effect. Samad is steadily getting better, as evidenced by his domestic cricket performances. However, it’s fair to say that 4 crore seems a little steep in the absence of even one standout performance.
2. Harry Brook
The most costly item purchased by SRH at the IPL 2023 auction was Harry Brook. Many expected the Orange Army to acquire one of the best available pace-bowling all-rounders, but they decided to go with the explosive English batter instead.
One of cricket’s most talented players is Brook. He fits the majority of the requirements for a productive T20 hitter and has range all over the field. The right-hander is also gradually establishing himself in franchise leagues and in various forms of international cricket.
However, because Brook has never played in the IPL before and has only appeared in 20 T20Is, paying him 13.25 crore seems exorbitant. The 23-year-old still needs to improve his spin strategy, and consistency in the shortest version is a challenge. By investing so much money in him, SRH have made a big risk.
1. Mayank Agarwal

At the IPL 2023 auction, Mayank Agarwal was acquired by SRH for $8.25 crore in another significant deal. The Indian batsman moves up to the top order, where he meets players like Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma.
Mayank is capable of incredible things when he’s at his best, but lately, that hasn’t been the case. He had a dismal season leading the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022, and he has a number of weaknesses. Abhishek, the first batter, is mainly a spinner, so he might not work well with the young southpaw.
Abhishek, the first batter, is mainly a spinner, so he might not work well with the young southpaw. Only SRH can explain why they chose to spend 8.25 crore on Mayank given that they are also a little low on all-rounders. But if the 31-year-old is chosen as the franchise’s skipper, his price would make more sense.
