IPL 2023: Two Indians Who Were IPL 2022 Commentators But Have Enrolled as Players for IPL 2023 Auction

IPL 2023: IPL 2022 is now a part of history. The Indian Premier League’s 2022 season was quite exciting. Ten teams competed for the coveted championship for just the second time in IPL history.

Gujarat Titans, who were playing for the first time, created history when they reached the championship game and defeated the defending champion Rajasthan Royals. The IPL 2022 roster included a number of elite athletes.

However, in that year’s mega auction, a few well-known names were also unsold. Some of them, like Suresh Raina, chose to pursue commentary after failing to find buyers.

While Suresh Raina has already left the Indian Premier League. Two other members of the commentary team from the previous campaign have signed up for the IPL 2023 Auction.

Indian cricketer Dhawal Sunil Kulkarni plays first-class cricket. He is a lower-order right-handed batter as well as a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He represents Mumbai in first-class cricket and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

One of the globally capped athletes who failed to find a buyer at the mega auction the previous year was Indian fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni. Kulkarni has played for the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in the past, giving him a ton of IPL experience.

The fast bowler plans to play in the league again in the IPL 2023 campaign. For the forthcoming auction, Kulkarni has set a base price of INR 50 lakh after a brief stint as a commentator with Star Sports last season.

He was chosen for the Indian Test team for the away series against New Zealand in 2009 due to his steady performance in the domestic season and the IPL. However, he was not chosen to participate in any of the series’ three Test matches.

IPL Auction: Piyush Chawla is The Next On the List

Another player who served as a commentator last year but is included in the auction pool for the IPL 2023 campaign is Indian leg-spin bowler Piyush Chawla. Veteran leg-spinner Chawla played for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 and the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.

He was purchased by CSK for a significant sum in 2020. However, there were no games played at Chepauk that year. Because the IPL 2023 is switching to a home-and-away format, Chennai might think about renewing his contract.
