IPL Auction 2023: England all-rounder Sam Curran has become the costliest player in the tournament’s history. The Punjab Kings bagged him for a whopping amount of 18.50 Crores in the IPL Auction 2023.
Along with Ben Stokes and Harry Brook, Sam Curran was already the hot pick in the IPL Auction 2023 list. His experience in IPL and current form helped him to fetch a handsome amount.
Although Sam Curran’s popularity was already taken into account, his price just went up the ceiling with multiple franchises’ interest. RCB, MI, RR, CSK, LSG, and PBKS bid for the all-rounder, but PBKS won the bid.
With this amount, Sam Curran broke KL Rahul’s record, who was retained for 17 Crores by Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. The key reason for such a high bid for Sam Curran is due to his uptick in the form in the international circuit.
After returning from injury, Sam Curran proved himself in the Test format. He emerged as Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2022 with 13 wickets. The potent bowler has the ability to go ballistic with the bat as well.

IPL Auction 2023: Sam Curran becomes the costliest buy in the tournament’s history
Punjab Kings were persistent in securing the services of Sam Curran for IPL 2023 and beat Mumbai Indians’ Akash Ambani. In terms of his IPL performances, Curran has scalped 32 wickets in as many games and scored 337 runs. Along with bowling proficiency, the southpaw has proved himself in the Hundred 2022 with his ball-striking abilities.
In the IPL 2019, Sam Curran picked a hat-trick for Punjab Kings, and then played for CSK in the 2020 and 2021 editions.
Although he was likely to be making his way to CSK, the Kings had a final say due to their hefty purse amount. His bid surprised a few, but the majority of them find Sm Curran’s tag justified on social media.
