Joe Root was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs.1 crore in the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday. In the initial run, he remained unsold but later bid and signed for RR in the accelerated auction.
The player was sold for a base price of Rs.1 crore. And no teams even made bids. The only team bid for Joe Root is Rajasthan Royals.
He remained unsold in the 2018 IPL auction and has never featured in the T20 league. Root was a little away from the T20 plays. He last played in the T20 format for England in May 2019.
However, Root was a key player in England’s runner-up finish in the 2016 T20 World Cup. He scored 249 runs and his average was 49.8. His strike rate for the tournament was 146.47.

Root is a great cricketer and mostly proved it in the ODIs and test matches. He is considered to be a super player in the test for England. And now he can showcase his talent in the T20 as well.
In the past years, Root’s status in the IPL auctions was compared with a maiden over. After his rejection in the 2018 IPL auction, he didn’t come back for the auction.
Ahead of the mini IPL auction 2023, he also signs in for another T20 format tournament. He gets in Dubai capitals.
His entry at the last minute has become meme material and many hilarious memes are posted by IPL fans. One of the tweets compares Root’s feel with ”a crush finally saying okay to a boy ”.
Though he was considered being a test specialist, he played some T20s too. His first attempt was a failure but his second attempt gained him a seat at the last minute.
Root has so far played 32 matches in T20Is for England and the 31-year-old has five half-centuries under his belt. In T20Is, Root was last seen in action against Pakistan back in May 2019 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
