Marnus Labuschagne Reclaims His Top Spot In ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings

Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne recently overtook England’s Joe Root to reclaim his top spot as the top batter in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. He became just the eighth player to hit a double century along with a century in the same Test.

Marnus Labuschagne, was just two points behind England’s Root before the two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Tests took place. After completing the tests over the past week, Labuschagne took the lead as Root dropped to fourth place. Steve Smith and Babar Azam sit in second and third place respectively.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 204 and 104, both not out during the first Test against the West Indies held in Perth. This earned him 50 rating points. He is ahead of the third-place holder Smith by 42 rating points.  

Marnus Labuschagne thus managed to regain the numero uno position after Root overtook him in mid-June post the successive centuries he scored against New Zealand.

Australia’s Smith has earned himself two slots after contributing to the victory of his team over West Indies after scoring unbeaten scores of 200 and 20. This becomes the fifth instance wherein two Australians have scored double centuries in the same Test.

Similarly, on the bowler’s list, off-spinner Nathan Lyon has also moved up one place to take the 15th place among the bowlers. His eight-wicket haul helped Australia complete a 164-run victory and also helped his team claim the top position in the WTC points table.

Similarly, among the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, India’s Shreyas Iyer moved up seven places after scoring 24 in the first match during their ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh, along with 49 in the preceding final match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka moved up three places to 34th, while India’s Lokesh Rahul of India climbed up four places to take 35th place. Afghanistan’s Najibullah Zadran also progressed by four places to take the 41st spot among the ODI batters ranking.

Rashid Khan from Afghanistan gained four slots to claim sixth place in the ODI bowlers’ rankings. He achieved the feat after taking four wickets for 37 runs in the last match of their Super League series against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has also jumped seven places to take ninth place among bowlers thanks to his five-wicket haul against India. Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasanranga and Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj share the 26th position.

New Zealand’s Tim Southee climbed up by five places to take the 29th spot and India’s Shardul Thakur took the 42nd spot after progressing by nine places are also among the players who have also progressed.
