PAK vs ENG: Ramiz Raja Thinks Rawalpindi Pitch Not a Good Advert for Test Cricket

PAK vs ENG: The PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has slammed the Rawalpindi pitch, and termed it as a bad advert for the longest format.

Currently, Pakistan Cricket Team are hosting England Cricket Team in the the first fixture of the three-match Test series at Rawalpindi. Opting to bat first, the visitors were proficient in building a 233 runs in less than 36 overs.

With Zak Crawley (122) and Ben Duckett (107) adopting Bazball approach, the cricket fraternity started criticizing flat Rawalpindi pitch. The spinners could not get much turn as well, resulting in Ollie Pope (108) and Harry Brook (153) scoring blistering centuries each.

England managed to slam a mammoth total of 657 runs with a run-rate of more than 6.5. Furthermore, the Pakistan vs England series was the first occasion of the team scoring 500 runs in a single day of a Test fixture. For the hosts, Zahid Mahmood picked four wickets, while Naseem Shah returned with three scalps.

Ramiz Raja expressed his unhappiness on the team management’s decision to prepare a lifeless Rawalpindi pitch. He feels the fixture may just get the result, but will not help the progress of Test cricket among cricket audience.

The 60-year-old further reckoned that if Pakistan wanted to prevail over England, they would have prepared a spinning track. He added that the Rawalpindi pitch is rather half-baked, with no turn or swing on offer.

“Not happy at all (with the pitch). We may just get a result, but it’s just not a great advert. If you want to nail England, for example, on a spinning track then we’ve got to prepare a drop-in pitch that turns from ball number one, rather than having a half-baked pitch which is neither quick nor spin a lot.”

The Rawalpindi pitch was earlier deemed as below average by match referee Ranjan Madugalle in the Australia Test series in March 2022. Only 14 wickets fell in entire five days of the fixture.
