Babar Azam record PSL Final, PSL 2023: Pakistani Captain Babar Azam recorded the fastest 9000 T20 runs, breaking the record set by Chris Gayle. His record-breaking knock helped Peshawar Zalmi to close in on the PSL Final for the record fourth time. Babar Azam’s record-breaking innings proved significant in setting up Peshawar’s total of 183 for 8 while batting first in the knockout match on Thursday.
The right-handed batter provided a solid start for the innings, putting on 60 runs for the first wicket with his opening partner Saim Ayub, who scored 23 off 16 balls. Mohammad Hafeez’s quickfire knock of 34 off just 17 balls gave the innings the necessary momentum in the middle overs.
Following Babar’s dismissal in the 13th over, Peshawar faced a collapse, losing five wickets for just 46 runs in the last seven overs. Despite this, Afghan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi, along with Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim, delivered a brilliant bowling performance in the final five overs.
During the chase, Islamabad United was cruising at 128-1 in the 14th over. However, Peshawar bounced back with an impressive display of death bowling which turned the game on its head. Their remarkable efforts restricted Islamabad to 171-6, thereby securing a crucial 12-run win for Peshawar Zalmi to get one step closer to the PSL Final.
