Quinton de Kock Will Lead Durban Super Giants for the Inaugural Season of SA20

The newfangled SA20 League is set to begin, and players are thrilled about it. The South African League is all set to be established early next year. A few months ago, Cricket South Africa compelled the entire cricketing community by auctioning off over 100 candidates.

A total of six teams, namely, Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Durban’s Super Giants, Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and MI Cape Town, will be the face of the league for the initial season. All these teams are owned by franchise owners of the fabled Indian Premier League (IPL).

The RPSG Group-owned Durban Super Giants recently announced their captain for the inaugural season of SA20. The experienced campaigner Quinton de Kock is all set to lead the franchise for the first time. The wicket-keeper also represents Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, which is a counterpart of Durban Super Giants. 

One of the five players signed by the Durban-based team before the auction was De Kock, who is renowned for his alluring hand-eye coordination and exquisite pick-up flick. The other players were Prenelan Subrayen, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Reece Topley.

In a brief period of time, Quinton led the South African squad in 4 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 11 T20Is. The southpaw has bagged up 8497 T20 runs at an average of 33 and strikes the ball at 138. The opening batter can also set the tempo early on which can be vital in contemporary cricket. 

Moreover, while representing Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022, the 29-year-old chalked up 508 runs with the help of three half-centuries and one scintillating century of 140(70), which came against Kolkata Knight Riders. Quinton was also the second-highest run-scorer for Lucknow this season, after KL Rahul (616 Runs). 

Durban Super Giants took it to social media and announced the arrival of their skipper and the fans are elated about the same.


Earlier, Quinton de Kock, asserted SA20 would be one of the greatest events in franchise cricket history. The wicketkeeper further said SA20 would provide the young players’ mobility as they rose up the ranks in the home circuit.

Quinton added, “Pretty much, it’s a new tournament, so. I guess looking forward to the unexpected, we have had a couple of these tournaments and there hasn’t been one in a while. Obviously, it’s quite a big event. I think this could be one of the bigger events in the local franchise system.”

On January 11 in Kingsmead, Durban Super Giants would play their opening match against the Joburg Super Kings. Meanwhile, the tournament commences a day earlier when MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals would lock horns with each other.
