Ricky Ponting, IND vs AUS: Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has now urged the Indian cricket team to tweak their batting order if they qualify for the WTC Final.

As thing stand, Australia are the first team to have qualified for the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship Final. They defeated Team India by nine wickets in the Indore Test recently.

After suffering back-to-back defeats, Australia eventually went on to crack the code and got rid of India in the third Test match at Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Australia’s win helped them secure a place in the WTC Final. However, Team India haven’t yet qualified for the final. In fact, they will have to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy series by 3-1 to reach the final.

In fact, the three games already come to a close. India have the upper hand at the moment as they are leading the series by 2-1. However, Australia’s recent win over India must have boosted their confidence levels.

If India goes on to lose the game, then they will have to rely on Sri Lanka’s result. If Sri Lanka doesn’t inflict a 2-0 whitewash on New Zealand in the away Test series then India will qualify for the WTC Final.

The former Australian captain feels that Team India should stick to KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, irrespective of their form. According to him, Shubman Gill should start the innings at the top of the order.

Furthermore, he wants KL Rahul to bat in the middle order. Ponting feels that these two players know a thing or two about the longest format of the game.

“With someone like KL Rahul having gone out of this side and Shubman Gill having come in, both these guys have played a bit of Test match cricket, and you could potentially have both of those guys in the same team,” Ricky Ponting told ICC.

“Maybe Shubman could start at the top and KL could potentially move down into the middle order because he’s played cricket in those (English) conditions before, albeit at the top of the order,” Ponting added.
