Rishabh Pant’s Eligibility for the ODI World Cup May Be Impacted, and He May Miss Most of 2023

Rishabh Pant: Based on a source, India’s ace wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is set to miss the entire 2023 season, which comprises the upcoming Indian Premier League season as well as the ODI World Cup later this year.

Rishabh Pant escaped an automobile accident on December 30 while traveling home to Roorkee from Delhi, in which he tore three muscles in his knee. While two were rebuilt, the third will be operational a couple of months later.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Pant will be out for further than 6 months, reducing his chances of getting selected for the ODI World Cup team significantly.

The batsman had operations last week to rebuild his posterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament. Pant will now have a second operation six weeks later to rebuild his cruciate ligament.

While the BCCI has yet to provide information on Pant’s rehabilitation timeframe, the article adds that the selectors. Board members concur that he will be sidelined for at minimum six months.

Pant last appeared for India in an exhibition match against Bangladesh in December of last year. The next Border-Gavaskar series begins on February 9 in Nagpur. And the World Test Tournament final are two significant contests that Pant is set to skip for India.

KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan were chosen as the two wicketkeeping possibilities for the Australia series, with the veteran expected to be the first-choice alternative.

Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, will also miss the IPL 2023, which starts on April 1st.

“Rishabh Pant won’t be present for the IPL,” Sourav Ganguly, the ex-chairman of the National Cricket Board, stated on Tuesday. “It will be a fantastic IPL (for the squad), we will play well, but Rishabh Pant’s illness will have an impact on the Delhi Capitals.”

As per ESPNcricinfo, Rishabh Pant, who was involved in a serious vehicle accident on December 30, is projected to miss the majority of 2023 as a player.

The extent of his tear is yet unknown. In Dehradun, he got an MRI of his brain and spinal cord. However, because of swelling and agony, physicians were forced to cancel the MRI on his ankle and knee.

Only until the swelling has subsided can the severity be determined. However, initial analysis indicates that Pant will require ankle and knee injuries.
