Mohammad Kaif feels that KL Rahul and Shubman Gill being selected ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in ODI cricket reflects Rohit Sharma’s thinking processes.
Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid have been chastised for leaving Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav out of the first two One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka this week.
Fans were enraged when Ishan was demoted to make room for Shubman Gill. Despite having scored a record double-century in his last match.
However, India legend Mohammad Kaif believes that the decision only represents the captain’s thinking processes. It will host a World Cup competition in 8 months.
During an interview with Star Sports, Kaif was requested to choose between the Rahul-Gill and Kishan-Suryakumar combos. And while he found it tough to choose between the two, he admired Rohit for his certainty in his choice.
Mohammad Kaif on Rohit Sharma:
“It’s a toss-up between Ishan and Surya and KL and Gill. As a captain, I believe Rohit Sharma has clarified his position absolutely clear. The lads have been competing for a few of years and have gotten some runs. Last year, Gill and KL Rahul performed admirably.
Shubman Gill is beginning the innings and scoring runs. While KL Rahul is completing the innings in the same manner he did in the last match – magnificent.
What I admire about Rohit Sharma is that he expresses himself clearly “He stated.

“Rohit will not be flamboyant. Ishan Kishan and Surya would entice you as they are terrific players. But he understands the importance of giving his teammates a chance. This is why Gill and KL are performing “He went on to say.
So far in the series, both Gill and Rahul have excelled. While the opener got 70 runs in the first game of the series in a hundred stand with Rohit. Rahul produced an undefeated 64 in the second match to help India win.

Rahul and Gill were selected ahead of the two Mumbai Indians (MI) batsmen in India’s participating XI for the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against Sri Lanka.
Considering Kishan’s spectacular double-century against Bangladesh and Suryakumar’s stellar form in T20I cricket, the tournament was a flop.
In the initial two ODIs, Gill and Rahul validated Rohit’s choice to select them ahead of Kishan and Suryakumar. While the Punjab starter got a satisfying 70 in the first match, the Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter batted his way to a match-winning undefeated 64-run effort in the second.
