In an unexpected turn of events, Bangladesh’s Test and T20I captain lost his cool and beat a fan at a promotional event following his team’s first T20I against England on Thursday.
Naturally, a large crowd gathered to see Shakib Al Hasan at the event. And as he made his way towards his car amid the hundreds of supporters, one of them allegedly tried to snatch his cap.
The fan’s gesture upset the allrounder, who began beating the fan with his cap. During this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023, he caused quite a stir when he stormed out onto the pitch from the dugout to argue with the umpire.

Shakib Al Hasan has lost his cool on several occasions in the past
The legendary all-rounder is the highest-ranked all-rounder in T20Is and ODIs, and third in Tests. While Shakib Al Hasan has made headlines for his continuous performances for Bangladesh, his on and off-field behavioral troubles has made him a controversial figure.
On multiple times, Shakib Al Hasan was seen arguing with the umpires following an unfavorable ruling. Last month, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan revealed a ‘rift’ between Shakib and Tamim Iqbal.
This week, he was in Chattogram for a promotional event, where a massive audience gathered to see their star cricketer. In the midst of the chaos, Shakib appeared to lose his cool and repeatedly hit a fan with his cap before being escorted away.
A couple of years back, Shakib Al Hasan did something similar in response to a poor umpiring decision during a league match. In response to the umpire’s decision, he kicked the stumps and shattered them on the ground in anger.

Shakib impresses as Bangladesh defeats England in the series opener
He is currently captaining Bangladesh in a bilateral series against England. Bangladesh defeated England in the first T20I of the three-match series on Thursday, led by Shakib Al Hasan.
The Bangladesh all-rounder recorded a stunning 1/26 in four overs before going unbeaten on 34 off 24 deliveries in Bangladesh’s 157-run chase, which they completed with two overs to spare.
Shakib Al Hasan also played a major role in the team’s third ODI victory over England last week. He scored 75 to boost the total to 246 before recording remarkable figures of 4/35 to lead the team to a 50-run victory.
On Sunday, the second game of the three-match T20I series will be played. Bangladesh leads the series 1-0 and would like to defeat the world champions and win the series.
