Shreyas Iyer Doubtful For Australia ODIs And IPL 2023 Due To Lower Back Issues

Not long ago, India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the first Test match against the Aussies. The first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series took place on February 9 at VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

He scored a quickfire 26 off 27 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes in the second innings before falling prey to Mitchell Starc’s delivery.

However, he didn’t bat in the fourth Test against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The right-handed batsman complained of pain in his lower back after the third day’s play.

As a result, he didn’t come out to bat in the first innings of the fourth Test. Earlier, he was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against the New Zealand cricket team.

A BCCI statement read that Shreyas Iyer complained of lower back pain after the end of Day 3. As a result, he went for scans. Currently, the BCCI medical team is keeping a tab on him. BCCI will take a final call after NCA assesses his condition.

“Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back following the third day’s play. He has gone for scans and the BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him,” the BCCI statement on Sunday morning read.

“It’s frustrating for sure. And it’s not the first time that a player has recurrence of an injury. We should have learned from Bumrah but we did not. Shreyas should have been eased into the team and not rushed to play grinding Test cricket.

Hopefully, he will be fit for the ODI series. But it’s difficult to say anything at this point. He had scans and is currently under the medical team’s observation,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
