India: Team India are a bit busy in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy series. They started the series on a positive note by beating Australia by innings and 132 runs in Nagpur.
Australia tried their maximum best to outsmart India. As it turned out, Pat Cummins and Co fell prey to India in the Test opener at VCA Stadium.
India are aware of the fact that Australia will pose a threat to them in the second Test match, which is slated to be held on February 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Notably, India haven’t lost a single Test here at this particular venue for 36 years. This goes to show that Delhi is well and truly India’s fortress in Test cricket.
Australia will do its maximum best to stop India. However, Rohit Sharma and Co will be well prepared for the Test challenge. A win in the next game will help them secure their top spot in the Test rankings.
Besides that, it will also help them increase their confidence levels going forward into the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. India’s aim is to win the Test series by a margin of 3-1 in order to book their berth in the ICC World Test Championship final.
In the latest development, India bagged the top spot in the latest ICC Test rankings. The improvement in rankings comes after India’s win in the first Test encounter against Australia in Nagpur.
Rohit Sharma and Co have gained 115 points and are only four points ahead of the second-placed Australian cricket team. Ahead of the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, India were second on the table whereas Australia were first.
On the other side of the coin, the England cricket team are third in the ICC Test rankings with 106 points. Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team are on top of the rankings in all 3 formats of the sport.
Ravindra Jadeja also enhanced his rankings to a great extent after his stellar performances in the Nagpur Test match against the Aussies.
Jadeja scored 70 runs in the first innings and also took five wickets in the first innings. It was his eleventh fifer in Test cricket. Besides that, he ended up with 7 wickets to his name and was named the man of the match.
“Feeling amazing. When you come back after five months and give your 100 percent, scoring runs and taking wickets feels amazing. Was working hard at the NCA. Would like to thank the NCA staff, physios. They have been working hard with me, even on Sundays. Was looking to bowl in good areas. Ball was spinning, going straight, keeping low,” Jadeja said after the first Test.
