Washington Sundar is one of the very few Indian cricketers who perfectly justified his selection whenever he got a chance to play for the Indian cricket team.

He has time and again made a real case for himself as a utility player, chipping in with fruitful contributions with the bat and ball on a consistent basis.

Notably, Washington Sundar has been a part of the Indian cricket set-up for quite a while but was ruled out of some important matches and tournaments due to injury.

Nonetheless, the all-rounder made a stellar comeback in India’s tour of New Zealand. Although Washington Sundar didn’t bring the best out of himself in the T20I series, he made a superb comeback in the ODI series.

The all-rounder scored a quickfire 37 off 16 balls where he composed his innings with the help of three fours and three hits over the fence at a strike rate of 231.25.

Washington Sundar drew plaudits for his cameo that helped the Indian cricket team post 306 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

He further backed Washington Sundar’s inclusion in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. “I am really happy with Washington Sundar. If you see the teams of 2010 or even before, a lot of batters used to bowl and India had that luxury before when Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Sourav Ganguly used to bowl.

“However, in this team, you do not see a lot of batters do that. It is very unfortunate when Hardik Pandya or Ravindra Jadeja miss out on the matches as India finds the sixth and seventh bowling options missing.

“India do need to look into this and Washington Sundar going ahead when looking at the 2023 World Cup,” added former Indian Test opener, Wasim Jaffer.
