In November of last year, England secured their second ICC World T20 championship by defeating Pakistan with a five-wicket victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This triumph closely followed their inaugural ICC ODI World Cup victory in 2019.

Rishi Sunak has expressed his love for the sport on numerous occasions. He has played cricket at an amateur level. He has previously played for the British Asians Cricket Club, a team made up of British Asian professionals. He has also played in the Lords and Commons Cricket Club.

In 2020, Rishi Sunak announced a £1.2 billion support package for UK cricket, which was facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At his official residence at 10 Downing Street, Sunak played host to the members of England’s ICC World T20 championship-winning team. It’s not surprising that Sunak has a passion and knowledge for cricket, given his connections to both England and India.

Skipper Jos Buttler and white-ball coach Matthew Mott spearheaded the England cricket team’s delegation, which also featured ‘Man of the Tournament’ Sam Curran, as well as Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, Phil Salt, Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, and Richard Gleeson.
