WPL 2023: Harmanpreet Kaur, Sciver-Brunt Chase Down Easily for MI After Saika Shines Again

Harmanpreet Kaur Sciver-Brunt Chase, WPL 2023: In the 10th encounter of WPL between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt ‘s unbeaten partnership helped Mumbai to easily chase down the target put on the board by Warriorz.

The table toppers faced the third-positioned UP Warriorz on Sunday in WPL’s tenth clash. After four matches Harmanpreet Kaur led Mumbai Indians are unbeaten in the league so far. After restricting Warriorz to 159 for 6 wickets, MI romped home in the 18th over with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur leading the charge 53 not out, facing just 33 balls.

For a moment it looked like England cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt and her Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur were playing a game of one-upmanship in their Women’s Premier League match against UP Warriorz here on Sunday.

It was Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten third-wicket partnership of 106 with Nat Sciver-Brunt who scored 45 runs not out, facing 31 balls which destroyed Warriorz’s hopes which had soared after the Mumbai Indians openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews gave a good opening partnership of 58 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Sciver-Brunt’s partnership along with Saika’s bowling spell helped MI win over UP

Talking about UP Warriorz innings, As the third-wicket partnership between UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath appeared to be heading towards the death overs, MI made a comeback with the help of left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque.

The bowler, who held the Purple Cap, dismissed both the Australian batters in the same over. Healy was caught out on the reverse sweep, while McGrath was stumped with a well-flighted delivery, just one ball later.

Harmanpreet expressed her gratitude towards Nat for her contribution to the team’s success. She said, “Thanks to Nat, she played really well. I got time to settle in. We were calculating (the scoring rate) very well. That time (UP Warriorz bowlers) Sophie (Ecclestone) and (Shabnim) Ismail were bowling well so we were calculating that there are other bowlers we can attack,” 

“Very happy with the performance. I can’t be thankful enough, the way we are playing and we are gelling together. This is the best tournament so far,” added the MI captain.

On her partnership with Harmanpreet, Nat Sciver-Brunt said, “The feeling is incredible. Our team is currently riding on a high. I had the notion that I needed to hit more boundaries, but then my teammate came in and smashed four boundaries in one over, effectively sealing the victory for us.”
