Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ Women player Hayley Matthews hogged the limelight for her stellar innings against Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore recently. Hayley Matthews opened the innings for Mumbai Indians’ Women and performed very well.
WPL 2023: Hayley Matthews says playing on better batting tracks helped her improve her game
Hayley Matthews chipped in with 47 off 31 deliveries as an opening batter in the team’s opening fixture against Gujarat Giants. Besides that, she followed it up with a match-winning unbeaten 77 off 38 deliveries against RCB.
She constructed the innings with sixes and boundaries. Apart from her batting masterclass, she also bowled pretty well. She took three wickets to her name in MI’s nine-wicket win over RCB.
Hayley Matthews added that the star-studded MI team gave her enough freedom to express herself. It will be quite interesting to see how she goes about her business in the upcoming fixtures.

Hayley Matthews echoed that playing on better batting pitches (DY Patil and Brabourne Stadium) helped her improve her game quite a lot. “We have got a team of a lot of stars. It has probably given the freedom at the top of the order here to go out there and bat,” said Hayley Matthews.
The fans also enjoyed her innings at the stadium. The woman cricketer from Barbados who is only 24 years old composed her innings with the help of 13 fours and a six.
“Over the last couple of weeks for the West Indies, I’ve been working on my batting, getting the big scores. I have just tried to carry that (form) here. Also, batting on much better wickets here than what we got in South Africa has also helped. It has also got the confidence up as well,” Hayley Matthews added.
