KL Rahul &Ravi shastri: KL Rahul’s form has been dipping since the past few series, showing no signs of getting better as he could score less than 50 runs total in the three test innings in the opening two test matches against Australia in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy.
The 30-year-old is receiving criticism from fans and former cricketers alike due to his continued failure to score runs for the team. In the current season of the BGT, he has managed scores of only 20, 17, and 1 in his three innings, which is unexpected of a player of his caliber.
Despite KL Rahul’s poor performances in recent times, the team management continues to support him, while a talented player like Shubman Gill, who is in good form, is waiting on the bench. Additionally, the top order has been struggling in Tests for a considerable period, not just limited to Rahul’s poor form.
Venkatesh Prasad, a former Indian right-arm fast bowler, recently criticized KL Rahul after his performance in the second innings of the second test match. Prasad stated that no other cricketer has played as many Test matches as Rahul with such a low batting average.

Ravi Shastri says Shubman Gill could challenge KL Rahul
According to Indian former coach and broadcaster Ravi Shastri, he thinks that Shubman Gill, who has been in excellent form, will provide stiff competition to KL Rahul for the opening batting slot in the team’s lineup for the third Test match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
Speaking to ICC Review Podcast, Ravi Shastri on KL Rahul said, “The presence of vice-captain in home conditions is not preferred by me, as I believe that only those in prime form should be selected. If the current vice-captain fails to perform, there should be an opportunity for someone else to take his place without the added pressure of the vice-captain tag.”
“Shubman Gill’s outstanding recent form makes him a strong contender for selection, but the decision ultimately rests with the team management. It’s a straightforward and direct approach, but one that I believe is necessary.”
“The decision on who will be the vice-captain will be made by the team management, taking into account factors such as Rahul’s current form and mental state.
They will also be keeping a close eye on Shubman Gill’s performance and potential as a possible alternative.” Ravi Shastri further said on KL Rahul
