Manchester United is not ready to sell the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, as the superagent George Mendes in January. Sporting Lisbon is ready to challenge United’s resolve to keep Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since the summer, Ronaldo made his intention clear of leaving United. But the club was not ready to let him go for nothing. New manager Ten Hag has also been very eager to keep the 37-year-old until the end of his contract.
Despite receiving assurances from the manager, Ronaldo’s role in the club has become limited to the bench. He has mostly appeared as a substitute player.
But Ten Hag will be the man who will make the final decision over Ronaldo’s future. The Dutch manager has impressed United fans by brilliantly managing all the controversies around Cristiano Ronaldo. Even the Manchester United board is impressed by his managing the team both on and off the field.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United Situation
In the game against Tottenham, Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come from the bench and left the field before the final whistle. However, Ronaldo was fined with £1 million fine as punishment.
On leaving Ronaldo out of the Chelsea game, Ten Hag spoke: “I think it is justified [his reputation] because he has achieved a lot in his career. I don’t have to mention it. It is so brilliant. But he has to be aware that you get judged by the moment and how you are acting today. Especially in top sport, it is about today – it is not about age or about reputation.”
Manchester United spent almost £220 million during the summer to bolster the squad. Ten Hag also brought two of his former players, Antony and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
According to the Mirror, Sporting is ready to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in January. The Portuguese side was the first club that launched Ronaldo’s career. Now, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is wishing to make a return to Portugal again. Sporting is interested to get their former man back. But Ronaldo’s £500,000-a-week wage is a massive drawback in this deal. But he is ready to take a pay cut to stay in Europe.
However, Sporting has one issue. Their qualifying for the next round of the Champions League has not been secured yet. Even though the club is still in the second position in Group D. But their upcoming game against Frankfurt will decide the fate of their next round of the Champions League.
If they qualify for the next round, they can offer Ronaldo the chance to play in the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
