Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar feels Harbhajan Singh’s absence won’t affect Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2020.
Chennai Super Kings(CSK) were the runners-up in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. The three-time IPL champions lost to Mumbai Indians by 1 run in an epic roller-coaster finale.
CSK and other IPL franchises arrived in the United Arab Emirates last month. All the eight franchises are prepping for the IPL 2020 campaign. CSK will begin their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on September 19.
Ahead of their campaign, CSK faced multiple blows in their squad. Earlier, 13 members were tested positive for coronavirus. MS Dhoni-led team received yet another bad news after Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL citing personal reasons.
CSK have several options to fill Harbhajan’s absence: Ajit Agarkar
As if this wasn’t enough, veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh also ruled out of the tournament due to personal reasons. Harbhajan’s absence is a big headache for the Yellow Army. It will be a hectic task for CSK to fill the veteran’s absence.
Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar reckons that Harbhajan’s absence won’t disturb CSK much as they have several options as well. CSK rely on spin, especially on slow pitches.
It would be quite interesting to see how CSK will make use of the conditions in the UAE. “Well, we have seen when they went to the auction, they already had enough spin. You’ve seen in Chennai when they play, they rely so much on spin because of the conditions.”
“Harbhajan Singh, obviously, that kind of experience, the quality that you lose, it is going to be a loss. But, I think CSK have a lot more cover in that department at least as far as spin is concerned,” Agarkar said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected.
CSK have enough spin options
Chennai Super Kings have several options in the spin department. Ajit Agarkar added that spinners like Piyush Chawla, Mitchell Santner and Imran Tahir can deliver match-winning displays as well.
“They have got Piyush Chawla as well that they have brought in. This year they have got Tahir, Santner, so they have got enough spin.”
“They will be hoping that the conditions are in their favour what they get in Chennai, which is a little bit of turn, then those spinners come into play,” said Agarkar.
