Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh are not part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team that is currently in the United Arab Emirates for the IPL 2020. Just days ahead of the start of the tournament, both the players backed out of the tournament citing personal reasons.
Harbhajan Singh’s name didn’t appear in the headlines as much as Suresh Raina. The southpaw flew to India in order to be with his family members at the need of the hour.
Earlier, it was reported that there was a rift between Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni.
However, CSK’s all-time leading run-scorer clarified that everything is normal with him and the franchise. Later on, Suresh Raina unfollowed CSK’s social media account on Twitter. This gave us a clear indication that Raina is no longer a part of the CSK family.
CSK terminates contractual relationship with Raina and Harbhajan
In the latest development, the Chennai Super Kings franchise removed Suresh Raina’s name from its official website. Not just Raina, even Harbhajan Singh’s name was removed from the website.
Besides removing both their names, CSK also started the process of ending the contractual relationships with the players.
Nobody really saw this coming. According to IPL Auction guidelines in 2018, both the players penned a 3-year-contract with the CSK, a deal that comes to a close in this season’s IPL.
Since both players refused to take part in the ongoing IPL season, CSK officially ended the contracts with the players as per reliable sources.
The former Indian cricketer Raina signed INR 11 crore a year contract with CSK. On the other hand, Harbhajan Singh had an INR 2 crore annual contract with the team.
No salary for Raina and Harbhajan: CEO
As per the information obtained from the sources, it is learned that no salary will be given to the duo for the IPL season. “Players will only be paid if they play as they are not playing they won’t be paid,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by InsideSport.
The end of the deal means that Raina or Harbhajan are not CSK players, at least for two more years. As far as the next season (IPL 2021) is concerned, India’s cricket body, BCCI doesn’t organize a player auction due to insufficient time.
This means that both the players will not have any deal or agreement with Chennai Super Kings. Raina and Harbhajan may be out of IPL for another Indian Premier League season.
