Manchester United are famous with being too defensive minded in the big games of the season. Chelsea’s defender David Luiz has now taken aim at the Red Devils’ tactics in his post-match interaction.
Chelsea and Manchester United played to a 2-2 stalemate at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring for the hosts before Anthony Martial scored twice to put the Red Devils into a commanding position. However, Ross Barkley struck deep into stoppage time to give Chelsea at least a point on the night.
It was a very dramatic match and one which went right down to the wire. Moreover, the fight between coaching staffs of Chelsea and Manchester United after Barkley’s goal showered entice in the game. Speaking in the post-match interview, Chelsea defender David Luiz hurled at Manchester United for being too defensive.
The Chelsea defender said:
“We tried to win from the beginning of the game. We controlled the game with possession, trying to create some space to score some goals. They came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack. I think in the first half it was just us who played. We could have done better by scoring the second goal to kill the game, but it is never easy to win in the Premier League, especially against a big opponent.”
“It gave them a chance because we had only scored one goal and in the second half they came and scored a lucky goal with the ball touching a player and bouncing about. After they scored they had a bit more confidence, and it was a great game. This is the Premier League against fantastic teams, so we have to keep going and try to work hard.”
In spite of the Red Devils having a notorious image of being too defensive across matches, David Luiz was wrong to blame them. Manchester United were looking attacking minded on the pitch and also struck twice to put Chelsea in jeopardy.
