Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal winner against Aston Villa should have been disallowed. Arsenal FC won 3-2 against the newly promoted Aston Villa, courtesy of Aubameyang’s brace.
Arsenal left with a win against Aston Villa notwithstanding the battle with 10 men for 49 minutes. Although, they might want to acknowledge an omission from the officials for alleging all three points. Ainsley Maitland-Niles saw a red card. Moreover, Aston Villa had twice spanned before the equalizer by Calum Chambers. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang later won it from a free-kick, with six minutes left, but Unai Emery’s side was lucky the goal stood.
That’s because Aston Villa should have earned an indirect free-kick. This was because of Calum Chambers and David Luiz’s infringements. Under IFAB’s latest legislation pertaining to the attacking players standing inside a yard of the defending wall at set-pieces. This would then allow the defending side to sustain an indirect free-kick. Law 13.3 reads: “If, when a free kick is taken, an attacking team player is less than one meter (one yard) from a ‘wall’ formed by three or more defending team players, an indirect free kick is awarded.”
Comments by the players.
Villa had five men in their wall and Tyrone Mings seemed to protest with ref Jon Moss. This happened in the instant aftereffect as the Arsenal players rejoiced. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s sixth of the season made it his 16th goal in his last 16 games. Chambers acknowledged the requirement to spread the contents in order to move away from the side’s current dependence on the Gabonese.
“We know as a team and we know as a defensive unit that we have to be solid. That we have to shut the door and be stronger,” Chambers said. But when you have players like that obviously it does help as well. We’re working every day in training and working on what we need to do and we’ll just keep going.” continued Calum Chambers.
Calum Chambers continued to praise the Arsenal strike and went on to say “Aubameyang’s very key. He’s a quality striker and a lot of the players on this team are quality, so to have him at the top of the team, scoring the goals is brilliant for us.”
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been an essential player for the Arsenal side. Arsenal is currently in the 4th position. Having won 11 points from 6 games, they are just 2 points behind Manchester City. Liverpool who has had a great start to the season, winning all their 6 games are at 18 points.
